Top 10 Moments of 2016-17: #6 Dedication of Len McPhee Court

University of Maine at Farmington Athletics dedicated its newly renovated basketball court in Dearborn Gymnasium this past year in name of legendary coach Len MacPhee.

MacPhee reminisced stories of memorable games and moments from each decade of his coaching tenure. The well-attended event saw friends, family, and alums of UMF basketball return to Farmington honor the longtime coach. The event featured introductions from former players under MacPhee, such as current UMF head men's basketball coach Dick Meader '68, men's basketball all-time scoring leader Cameron Brown '78, current head coach of the Charlotte Hornets Steve Clifford '83, and women's basketball 1,000-point scorer Caryn Lasante Ford '98.

MacPhee retired from UMF in June of 2001 after serving its students for 36 years. He coached men's basketball for 24 years, women's basketball for seven years, baseball for six years, softball for three years, and taught in the physical education department. MacPhee's service also included director of athletics, chair of the physical education program and director of the Coaching Certificate program. As director of athletics, MacPhee initiated the Athletics Hall of Fame, an athletics newsletter, and the Friends of UMF Athletics fund-raising program.

As a basketball coach, he earned numerous Coach of the Year awards with both teams and holds the record for most career wins in the men's program with 322 victories. The women's program is most notable for its back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 1995 and 1996.

MacPhee is a member of the UMF Athletics Hall of Fame, the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.
