Field Hockey Drops Home Opener to Southern Maine

FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington dropped it's home opener today by a score of 3-0 to the University of Southern Maine on Prescott Field.  After an evenly played first half that saw USM take a 1-0 into the break, the Huskies came out in the second half more offensive minded and scored two goals for the 3-0 win.  The loss drops UMF to 1-2 and with the win, USM improves to 1-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • USM held an 11-2 advantage in total shots and 9-0 in the second half
  • Shots on goal went to USM with a 6-2 advantage
  • The Huskies had 10 penalty corners to UMF's 4
  • UMF held a 3-2 edge in saves

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Hayden Spencer scored her first career goal in the first to half giving USM a 1-0 halftime advantage.
  • Senior Kerrigan Demers scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the second half.
  • Emily Skvorak scored the last goal in the 63rd minute for the 3-0 final
  • Kasey Talarico and Kyla Sturtevant both had one shot on goal to lead the Beavers offense
