WATERVILLE — Thomas College tipped the University of Maine at Farmington 63-62 in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action this afternoon.

The Beavers (1-9 overall, 1-1 in the NAC) are scheduled to host Husson University Tuesday (men at 5:30 p.m., women to follow. The Terriers ran their record to 8-2 (1-1).

 The highly contested match was a back and forth affair with neither team able to gain a double digit lead.  The first half witnessed Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) and Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) of Farmington each net eight points while Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, MA) scored 11 for the Terriers.  The score at half time at the near capacity Larry Mahaney Gym was 27 – 24 UMF.

In the second half, Farmington led 38 – 30 on a layup by DJ Gerrish (Rumford, ME) with 15 minutes to play.  Thomas answered with 12-2 run highlighted by 8 points by DeVaughn who ended with a game high 31 points.  The teams matched baskets until a 3-pointer by Lelansky tied the game for Farmington at 60 – 60 with 1:32 left in the game.

Two free throws by Francisco Alicea (Foxboro, MA) and one by Darrell Alexander (Fairfield, TX) gave the Terriers a three-point lead with seven seconds remaining.  A layup by Mike Gingras (Winthrop, ME) as time expired brought the final score to 63 -62 Thomas College.

Leading the way for the Beavers were Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) with 18 points, five assists, one steal and Lelansky with 16 points.

The Terriers were paced by DeVaughn with 31 points, 12 rebounds and Alicea with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and one steal.
