FARMINGTON -- St. Joseph's College slipped past the University of Maine at Farmington 59-57 in non-conference men's basketball action tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers (0-3) are scheduled to visit Colby College on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., while the Monks (2-0) are slated to host the University of Southern Maine Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) led Farmington with 22 points, while Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) chipped in nine points and Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) scored eight points with three blocked shots. Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) snared a game-high 10 rebounds.

Tyler Kelley (Saco, ME) paced the Monks with 16 points, with Chris Petzy (East Kingston, NH) throwing in nine points off the bench.

With the game knotted at 55, Alberto Rue (Jamaica Plain, MA) drained a 3-pointer from the wing with 1:34 left the game to put St. Joseph's ahead 58-55. After Taylor collected a layup to cut the lead to 58-57 with 1:05 remaining, the two teams exchanged a pair of possessions before Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY) hit foul shot to make it 59-57. An O'Brien miss gave Farmington a final chance, but Leary's jumper went through the cylinder after the horn sounded to allow the Monks to escape with the 59-57 win.

St. Joseph's used an 8-1 run in the first half to take a 23-14 lead with 7:26 until intermission, but the Beavers were able to score the game's next six points, capped off by a pair of free throws by Mike Gingras (Winthrop, ME) to make it 23-20 with 6:09. The Monks held off the hosts with St. Joseph's carrying a 29-25 lead at halftime.

Farmington trimmed the lead to a single possession on five occasions in the second half before the Monks built a 53-46 advantage. The Beavers battled back with Leary following his own miss on a 3-pointer for a layup to tie the game at 55-55 with 3:30 to play.
