Box Score WATERVILLE -- The Colby College men's basketball team used a late run at the end of the opening half to pull away for a 67-46 win over the University of Maine at Farmington tonight at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Beavers (0-4) are scheduled to host the University of Southern Maine Monday at 7 p.m. The Mules are 4-0 overall and 3-0 at Wadsworth Gymnasium heading into Saturday's 6 p.m. game with University of Maine at Augusta on the opening night of the Colby Invitational.
Justin Sherman (Piedmont, CA) had 12 of his game-high 14 points in the second half. Mike Russell (Wellesley, MA) added 11 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Adam Choice (Newport, RI) finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Choice leads the Mules with 19 assists in four games and leads the team in scoring at 17.5 a game.
Colby also received eight points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots from Chas Woodward (Vero Beach, FL). Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, ME) and Gil Haylon (Wellesley, MA) each had six points.
Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) led Farmington (0-4) with 10 points and six rebounds. Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) also had 10 points, while Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) dished five assists.
The score was tight for much of the first half, with the Beavers taking their final lead of the game at 14-12 with 10:51 to play. The Mules led just 24-19, but used an 11-2 scoring run over the final 2:22 of play to take a 35-21 lead into the break. Colby continued to pull away in the second half and led by 20 points with 6:42 to play in the game.
