Box Score CASTINE -- Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) netted a career-high 31 points as the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team defeated Maine Maritime Academy 65-54 in North Atlantic Conference action for its first win of the season.
The Beavers (1-8 overall, 1-0 in the NAC) ended an eight-game slide with the victory. Farmington is scheduled to visit Thomas College Saturday for a NAC twinbill (men at 2 p.m., women to follow). The Mariners slipped to 4-7 (0-1).
Dean -- the lone Beaver in double-digits scoring -- connected on nine of 12 3-point attempts to lead Farmington to the win. Six of Dean's treys came in the opening half as Farmington built a 34-18 halftime lead. Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) added seven points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Beavers.
Jarred Sternbergh led MMA with 16 points, while Ben Russell added 10 points. The Beavers outshot the Mariners 44.7 percent (21-47) to 35.3 percent (18-51).
