Men's basketball pulls away past Lyndon State

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The University of Maine at Farmington outscored Lyndon State College 19-5 over the final 8:32 of the first half to take an 81-61 North Atlantic Conference win over the Hornets tonight.

The Beavers (3-9 overall, 3-1 in the NAC) are scheduled to return to action Saturday at Johnson State College. The men's game is tabbed for a 2 p.m. start with the women to follow. The Hornets slipped to 5-8 (1-2).

Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Farmington. Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) had 16 points for the Beavers and Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) added 12. Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) had a team-high 12 rebounds and three steals in the victory.

The Hornets scored the game's first seven points and held a 23-20 lead with 9:05 left in the first half, but the Beavers went on a 13-0 run to grab a 33-23 advantage. Taylor scored nine points during the stretch and 20 for the opening half as Farmington took a 39-28 command into intermission.

D.J. Campbell scored 24 points off the bench to lead the Hornets, including a 7-for-11 effort from beyond the three-point arc. Jason Gray chipped in 14 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots while Jose Fortuanto added 11 points, five assists and three steals.
