Box Score BRUNSWICK -- Bowdoin College set down the University of Maine at Farmington 66-46 in non-conference men's basketball action.
The Beavers (0-8) are scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference action Tuesday at Maine Maritime Academy. The men's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the women to follow.
Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Farmington with Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) providing 13 points. Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) dished out six assists in the loss.
Mark Phillips powered the Polar Bears with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Randy DeFeo and Ryan O'Connell each scored 11 points.
Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) gave Farmington an early edge at 8-7 with a 3-pointer at 13:14 in the first half, but the Polar Bears responded with a 7-0 stretch to take a 14-8 lead. Bowdoin carried a 36-26 advantage into the break.
The Beavers outscored the Polar Bears 12-3 in the first five minutes out of halftime with a Roy Burdin (Guilford, ME) basket cutting the lead to 39-38, but Bowdoin bounced back with a run again, scoring the contest's next 12 points to take a 51-38 command. Farmington was held to a basket and one free throw over the final 6:54 as Bowdoin pulled away for the 66-46 victory.
