Box Score LEWISTON -- University of Maine at Farmington dropped to 1-4 with a 76-69 non-conference men's basketball loss to Bates College tonight.
Farmington (1-4) is scheduled to visit the University of Southern Maine Thursday at 7 p.m.
Eric Taylor (Oakland, Maine) led the Beavers with game-highs of 25 points and seven rebounds. The senior is 18 points shy of 1,000 for his collegiate career. Andrew Dean (Gorham, Maine) chipped in 10 points in the loss, while Tim Gingras (Winthrop, Maine) supplied nine points and six boards off the bench.
Headed by Alex Gallant's 17 points, Bates had five players reaching double figures in scoring, including Nick Schiemann at 13, Mark Brust and Ryan Weston at 11 apiece and Thomas Deegan at 10.
Bates led throughout the entire game, opening the contest with a 10-2 lead over the first 4:32. The Beavers got back to within two points, but the hosts used a 15-2 span to build their lead to 26-14. Bates led 28-17 at the break.
The Beavers outscored the Bobcats 16-8 out of intermission to cut the deficit to 36-33 with 14:30 left in the second half. Bates kept Farmington at a distance with a Gallant jumper pushing the lead to 51-41 with 9:31 left in the game.
The Bobcats led by 13 points with 4:35 to play, but Farmington scored the next six points to set up a push down stretch with a 66-59 game with 1:48 left. Bates' foul shooting (4-8) over the last 1:11 allowed the Beavers to stay close with a layup by Taylor making it 72-69 with 15 seconds remaining, but two offensive rebounds and a pair of free throw makes by Gallant helped seal up Bates' 76-69 win.
