Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team fell short at Green Mountain College as the Eagles notched a 63-61 victory over the Beavers in North Atlantic Conference action tonight.
The Beavers (9-11 overall, 9-2 in the NAC) are scheduled to visit Castleton State College Saturday (women at 2 p.m., men to follow). Green Mountain improved to 7-13 (4-7).
Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) tallied 21 points with five 3-pointers for the Beavers, while Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Rui Carmo led all scorers with 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Eagles with Trent Morgan adding 13 points. Each team knocked down 22 field goals, but the Eagles (22-49) shot 44.9 percent to 33.3 percent for Farmington (22-66).
The two teams battled through the opening half with eight deadlocks and eight lead changes. Carmo netted 16 points in the frame, while Lelansky scored 12 points. A Carmo jumper at 3:11 gave the hosts a 31-29 edge and they took a 36-33 lead into intermission.
The Eagles scored the first six points of the second half to take a 42-33 lead, but the Beavers fought their way back into the contest. Farmington cut the lead down to a single possession on eight occasions.
Carmo hit a pair of free throws with 32 seconds remaining to give Green Mountain a 60-56 lead. After a Taylor jumper, Eddie Asieduo drained a pair of foul shots to keep the distance at 62-58. Lelansky knocked down a three to get the Beavers to 62-61 with three seconds left, but Carmo hit a foul shot and the Eagles closed out the 63-61 win.
