Box Score FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team ran its record to 11-2 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 75-50 victory over Johnson State College tonight in Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Beavers (11-12 overall, 11-2 in the NAC) are scheduled to close out their regular season Saturday at home against Lyndon State College (women at 2 p.m., men to follow). The Badgers (9-15, 5-8) are scheduled to visit Thomas College Saturday (women at 2 p.m., men to follow).
Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) and Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) each turned in double-doubles for the Beavers with Taylor scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and Tanguay adding 11 points and 13 boards. Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) added 12 points, including four 3-pointers, in the win and Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME)threw in 10 points.
The Beavers knocked down 52.7 percent of its shots (29-55), including 62.5 percent (10-16) from beyond the arc. The Badgers were held to 33.3 (18-54).
Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, PA) popped in 14 points to lead Johnson State with Leandro Martinez (Philadelphia, PA) chipping in nine points.
After an exchange of threes to open the contest, Tanguay and Taylor each struck for a pair of layups to help the Beavers out to an 11-3 lead over the first 3:55. Behind Bousono's off the bench spark (11 points), Johnson State kept the game within reach at 33-26 with 3:11 left in the first half, but a Taylor layup and a Dean 3-pointer helped Farmington into the locker room with a 38-26 lead.
The Beavers held the double-digit lead and were ahead 49-36 with 11:47 to play when they went on a 18-1 stretch over the next 5:50 to put away the game. Dean and Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) each struck for two 3-pointers in the run as the lead swelled to 67-37 before Farmington closed out a 75-50 win.
