Box Score BANGOR -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team bolstered its North Atlantic Conference record to 7-1 as the Beavers held off Husson University 65-60 in North Atlantic Conference action tonight in Newman Gymnasium.
The Beavers (7-10 overall), who are slated to host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday with the women's game at 1 p.m. and the men to follow. The Eagles dropped to 12-7 (6-2).
Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, for Farmington, while Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) added 19 points and Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) provided eight points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
Joshua Jones turned in game-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles, while Jay Uhrin chipped in 12 points in the loss.
Lelansky buried three 3-pointers in the opening 4:45 as the Beavers bolted out to a 17-5 lead. A Tanguay jumper gave Farmington a 27-11 advantage with 8:58 left until halftime.
The early Beaver hold dissipated as Husson responded with a 17-2 stretch to get back into the contest. Jones and Brad Libby each netted five points during the run. Farmington slipped into intermission with a 31-28 edge.
Seven points from Taylor helped the Beavers rebuild their lead to 45-33 5:51 into the second half, but the Eagles battled back again to tie the game at 54. A Marc Zaharchuck basket with 3:16 to play gave Husson its first lead at 56-54.
The lead see-sawed with Taylor knocking down a pair of foul shots with 15 seconds left for a 61-60 lead. Following a pair of empty offensive possessions by the Eagles, Lelansky drained two pairs of free throws to help Farmington hold on for the 65-60 win.
