FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team claimed the top seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference tournament with an 88-64 victory over Lyndon State College this afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Boasting their first top regular-season finish in the NAC since joining in 2003, the Beavers (12-11 overall, 12-2 in the NAC) are scheduled to host the NAC semifinals and finals next Friday and Saturday. The Hornets finished their season at 8-16 (4-10).

Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME)tallied 23 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead all scorers for Farmington, while DJ Gerrish (Rumford, ME) kicked in 15 points and seven assists, Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME)added 11 points and 16 boards and Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) supplied 14 points.

Logan Calkins (Danville, VT) tallied 13 points for Lyndon State with Jason Gray (East Thetford, VT) and Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, VT) chipping in 12 points apiece and Jose Fortunato (Boston, MA) throwing in 10 points.

Sackett scored 10 points off the bench in the opening half as the Hornets hit 50 percent of their shots (13-26) to hang with the Beavers early. A Gray jumper gave the visitors a 30-29 edge with 5:11 until intermission, but Framington scored seven straight points to seize control to take a 41-38 edge at the break.

Leading 54-47 with 12:30 left in the game, Lelansky and Dan Kane (Bradford, ME) knocked down 3-pointers to spirit an 11-0 stretch for the Beavers. The lead swelled to 25 points with Farmington rolling to an 88-64 victory. Lelansky scored 13 points to help lead the second-half surge with Gerrish adding 11 points and Tanguay 10 points.
