Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. -- Lyndon State College edged University of Maine at Farmington 78-75 in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action this afternoon
The Beavers (6-9 overall, 2-3 in NAC) are scheduled to host Thomas College Wednesday (women's game at 5:30 p.m., men to follow). The Hornets upped their record to 4-11, but 3-1 in the NAC.
Phil Warrick's 18-footer with 3.1 left in regulation was the difference for Lyndon. Trailing by one with less than 10 seconds left to play; Warrick sprinted past a Beavers' defender and drained the game-winning shot from the right wing. On the ensuing inbounds play, Jason Gray deflected a full-court inbounds pass to teammate Jose Fortunato, who was fouled immediately. Fortunato sank two free throws with .7 seconds on the clock to ice the win and send the Hornets on to their third consecutive victory in NAC play.
Eric Taylor (Oakland, Maine) had a double-double for Farmington, pouring in a game-high 31 points to go with 13 rebounds and two steals. Andrew Dean (Gorham, Maine) added 13 points for the Beavers and Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine) had 10 points.
Warrick managed to toss in 26 points and collect a team-high three assists in the contest. Gray chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Ben Sackett came off the bench to scorch the nets for 18 points, including a 6-for-9 effort from beyond the three-point arc.
The game featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes with the Beavers taking the game's largest advantage at 66-59 on a Taylor jumper with 4:39 left in the contest. The Hornets scorched Farmington for a 10-2 stretch with a pair of Sackett threes and a hoop-and-harm by Warrick to take a 69-68 edge with 2:09 remaining.
The lead was exchanged four times before Taylor knocked down a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left for a 75-74 lead for the visitors before Warrick's jumper and Fortunato's play helped Lyndon to a 78-75 win.
