Box Score BANGOR -- Husson University opened with a 30-10 start on its way to an 85-60 win over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action tonight at Newman Gymnasium.
The Beavers (10-13 overall, 6-7 in NAC) are scheduled to visit Maine Maritime Academy for their regular-season finale Saturday at 2 p.m. The Eagles ran their record to 19-5 (12-1).
Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) led the Beavers with 14 points off the bench, while Danny Kane (Bradford, Maine) recorded seven points and five assists and Yusuf Iman (Auburn, Maine) supplied eight points.
Jay Uhrin (Winterport, Maine) scored a game-high 23 points for the Eagles, while Josh Jones (Jefferson, Maine) with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Daeshawn McMorrin (Naugatuck, Conn.) with 18 points and 10 rebounds each posted double-doubles.
Husson hit 44.4 percent (28-63) of its shots from the field, while the Beavers were limited to 32.8 (19-58), including 26.3 (5-19) from 3-point range.
Uhrin tallied 13 points, including a pair of threes and a hoop-and-harm, and Jones netted 10 points in the Eagles' opening 30-10 charge. The lead inched to 41-20 with 4:12 remaining in the half before the Beavers put together a 7-2 finish to the frame, featuring a Sumner trey, to trail 43-28 at halftime.
The Husson lead grew to 22 points in the beginning of the second half with Kane hitting a 3-pointer with 12:51 to cut the deficit to 61-42. The Eagles scored the game's next 10 points, while holding the Beavers without a field goal for more than five minutes for a 71-42 advantage. Sumner knocked down a jumper to quiet the run at 71-44 with 7:17 to play, but Jones hit a three to give the hosts a 74-44 command and the Eagles went on to roll by the Beavers 85-60.
