CASTINE -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team closed out its regular season with a 65-53 North Atlantic Conference loss to Maine Maritime Academy this afternoon.

The Beavers (10-14 overall, 6-8 in NAC) finished in fifth place in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to visit No. 4 Castleton State College (14-11, 9-5) in the NAC First Round on Tuesday. Game time is to be announced.

Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) scored 11 points off the bench for the Beavers, while Eric Taylor (Oakland, Maine) returned after missing three games to net 10 points. Andrew Dean (Gorham, Maine) added eight points and 10 rebounds in the loss with Roy Burdin (Guilford, Maine) pulling down nine boards.

Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) led MMA with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ben Russell (Farmington, Maine) scored 12 points, including a 7-for-8 effort from the foul line.

Farmington scored the first seven points of the game and led 15-7 with 11:45 left in the opening half on a Yusuf Iman (Auburn, Maine) jumper. With the Beavers leading 21-16 with 7:28 remaining, the Mariners outscored the visitors 11-5 to close out the frame with a 27-26 edge at intermission.

A Dean three tied the game at 29-29 with just over 17 minutes left in the second half, but MMA tallied the next six points to distance itself from the Beavers. The Mariners kept Farmington at bay and held at 47-40 lead with 4:35 remaining before taking off on a 10-2 run to pull away. Dostie scored six points during the stretch to help the hosts to a 57-42 command with a little over a minute remaining.

Sumner hit three foul shots and DJ Gerrish (Rumford, Maine) buried a three to get the Beavers to 59-51, but the Mariners made all six of their free throw attempts down the stretch to finish off the 65-53 win.
