Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Four University of Maine at Farmington players finished in double-figures as the Beavers dominated Maine Maritime Academy 87-52, in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball matchup Tuesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Junior Ben Johnson (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook) scored 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting, his seventh 20-point game this season, and finished with 11 rebounds to turn his sixth double-double.
Junior point guard Yusuf Iman (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and junior Garrett Clemmer (Windham, Maine/Windham) each added 13 to the UMaine-Farmington (9-3, 5-1 NAC) cause, while junior Nate Carson (Orrington, Maine/Brewer) tallied 10 points.
Maine Maritime (3-8, 2-4 NAC) was led by Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine/Ellsworth) with a team-leading 15 points off the bench, while Caleb MacDonald (Swan's Island, Maine/Mount Desert Island) paced the starters with 11 points.
The Mariners' 52 points matched a season best for fewest points allowed by UMaine-Farmington.
UMaine-Farmington shot 49.3 percent from the floor while holding Maine Maritime to just 32.7 percent shooting, the Beavers' third-best field goal percentage defense effort this season. UMF outrebounded Maine Maritime, 49 to 26, and the Beavers' +23 rebounding margin marked a season high.
The Beavers jumped out to an 11-0 lead over Maine Maritime, and led wire-to-wire. UMaine-Farmington's advantage reached 20-2 at the 12:29 mark of the opening frame on an Iman layup, and the margin broke the 20-point barrier with under seven minutes left in the first half on a Clemmer 3-pointer.
UMaine-Farmington returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 12, when it faces Thomas College at 2:00 p.m. in Waterville. Maine Maritime hosts Johnson State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, in Castine.
