Men's basketball downs Southern Maine Comm. College in OT, 97-91

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – A pair of free throws and a conventional three-point play from senior Terion Moss in overtime gave the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball a lead it held the rest of the way in a 97-91 OT win over Southern Maine Community College, Wednesday night at Dearborn Gym.

After a Cameron Cousins foul shot gave SMCC an 86-85 lead early in the extra session, Moss made two shots at the line with 4:43 showing on the clock.

A Seawolf turnover and a steal by the Beavers on the ensuing play resulted in a bucket for Moss while drawing another foul, and he connected on the free throw to put UMF in front, 90-86, with 4:17 to play.

The Seawolves got within one of the Beavers, 92-91, when Zach Mickle hit the second of two foul shots, but Kyle Donlin's three-pointer at the other end of the floor put the Beavers back in front by four with 49 seconds remaining to end the threat.

Earlier, UMaine-Farmington looked like it would seal the win in regulation after Donlin's trey with just over two minutes showing on the game clock, but a Cousins layup and a 3-pointer from Mickle helped the Seawolves keep pace. Dylan Griffin's free throws with 15 seconds to play left UMaine-Farmington up 85-84, but Mickle hit the second of two foul shots with five seconds remaining to tie the game.

Southern Maine Community College led by five, 38-33, at halftime after shooting 15-of-37 (.405) from the floor including six 3-pointers, while holding UMaine-Farmington to a .364 shooting clip (12-of-33). While the Seawolves were even more accurate in the second half, the Beavers also found their shooting touch and went 17-of-29 (.586) from the field in the second half.

Jack Kane finished the night with 32 points, while Moss and Donlin had 25 and 20 points respectively. Kane turned the double-double with 18 rebounds, leading a UMF squad that dominated the boards, 48-35. Griffin dished out a team-high six assists for the Beavers.

Southern Maine C.C. finished with all five starters in double figures, led by Cousins with 22 points. Ian Regan finished with 20 points to go with seven rebounds.

UMaine-Farmington men's basketball is on the road for its next two contests, starting with a matchup at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 3:00 p.m.
