LEWISTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior center Jack Kane (Cumberland, Maine) became the 32nd member of the men's basketball 1,000 point club on Tuesday evening in Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Bates College. Kane came into the evening needing 18 points to complete the milestone. Kane finished the evening scoring 19 points on 6-14 shooting from the field and 7-11 from the free throw line. However, the Beavers fell to the Bobcats, 94-65 to drop to 9-6 on the season.
The Beavers were without Preseason All-American Terion Moss (Portland, Maine) in the contest. But it was the Bobcats hot shooting that made the difference on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats shot 52.9% (36-68) from the field and 51.4% from three, connecting on 18 three pointers to sink the Beavers.Â
Senior forward Kyle Donlin (Warren, Maine) was feeling it early, hitting a pair of three's and two free throws to score the first eight points of the game for the Beavers. Despite Donlin's hot shooting the Bobcats came out even hotter. Bates made their first six shots of the game and built a 17-10 lead just three minutes into the game.Â
A pair of layups and a free throw from Kane cut the lead to two but that was as close as the Beavers would get on the evening. The Bobcats increased their lead to 21 off the heels of a 23-4 run. The Bobcats hit four three-pointers during the spurt and 10 in the first half in building a 49-30 lead.
The halftime intermission did not cool off the Bobcats. They came out of the break on a 12-3 run over the first five minutes to up their lead to 29. The Beavers were able to cut the lead back to 23 but were unable to draw any closer.
The highlight of the second half for the Beavers was Kane's milestone. Kane reached his 1,000th point when he converted the first of a pair of free throws with 3:49 remaining. Kane would hit the second and exit the game with 1,001 career points.Â
The Beavers shot 37.7% (20-53) on the evening, with Kane and Donlin the team's high scorers. Donlin finished the evening with 17 points hitting 4-5 from downtown.
The Bobcats had contributions from several players as every player who entered the game registered a field goal made. Grant Nadeau scored a team-high 17 points off the bench. Elliot Cravitz added 15 points while Brady Coyne pitched in with 10.
