Evans Receives North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week

WATERVILLE, Maine - Joy Evans of the University of Maine at Farmington women's cross country team has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 1st the conference announced earlier today.

Evans joined the team this season as a senior, having never competed in collegiate athletics. Despite never competing collegiately, Evans quickly became a centerpiece for the Beavers success to this point this season.

This past weekend at the Maine State Championship at Saxl park, Evans paced the Beavers on the course, placing 16th overall with a time of 24:40.6 and an average mile time of 6:21.0. Evans was the first NAC runner to cross the finish line. The time from Evans was the 2nd quickest 6k in program history. She also helped the Beavers place 7th overall as a team with an average team time of 26:56.

Evans has been ultra-consistent this season for the Beavers, being the first Farmington runner across the finish line in all three races, including picking up an individual title at the season opening meet at the UNE Invitational.

Evans and the Beavers are off this weekend but will be back in action on October 14th when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Suffolk Invitational.
