Backman Nets Five as Beavers Fall to Clark on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team dropped their 2nd game of the season on the road at Clark University, 24-7. 

The Cougars got the scoring going early, knotting their 1st goal just 56 seconds into the game when Sophie Didier found the back of the net. Elizabeth Liakos scored a pair of goals 29 seconds apart to make it a three goal advantage just 2:21 into the game. 

The Beavers got one back when freshman Emma Bourget netted an unassisted marker to make it 3-1. But the Cougars responded with three straight goals, increasing their lead to 6-1.

Beavers senior attacker Kaya Backman went on a scoring rampage over the final 20 minutes of the 1st half. Backman scored five goals over that time span to help keep the Beavers in the game and make the score 9-6 at halftime.

The wheels fell off for the Beavers in the 2nd half. They were outscored by the Cougars 15-1. The lone goal for the Beavers was an unassisted marker from freshman Ruby Mcminis (Wells, Maine) with 6:31 left to play in the 3rd quarter.

Bourget contribute a goal and two assists on the day for the Beavers while Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) pitched in with an assist. Lydia Eastman (Chelsea, Vermont) and Trefsger each had four ground balls to lead the Beavers. Kate Nowell (York, Maine) made 11 saves in net.

For Clark, Liakos scored five goals, Didier and Kiley Simmons each netted four, while Meghan Fogarty and Mary Greene each added hat-tricks. The Cougars held a 42-12 in shots.

The Beavers head to Gorham on Tuesday to take on the University of Southern Maine for a 4:00 pm game.
