Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Massive 3rd Quarter Leads Beavers to Senior Day Victory

FARMINGTON, Maine - After trailing 7-4 heading into halftime, the University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals in the 3rd quarter to run away from the visiting Thomas College Terriers on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the start of the game, the Farmington women's lacrosse team honored their two seniors Kate Nowell (York, Maine) and Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont).

Once the game began, it was the Terriers who jumped out to the early lead. Mara Gentry scored a goal on the opening possession of the game for Thomas, scoring on an assist from Mary LaRochelle. LaRochelle doubled Thomas' lead two and a half minutes later scoring a goal of her own as the Beavers were stymied by the Terrier defense.

Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) cracked the Thomas defense, scoring her 1st goal of the day to cut the Beavers deficit in half with ten minutes to play in the 1st quarter.

LaRochelle found a cutting Emily Wallingford in front of the goal to make it a 3-1 Thomas advantage. Scarlett Raymond-Ayer converted a free-position shot inside the final two minutes of the opening quarter to make it a 4-1 game after the first 15 minutes.

Sage Brown extended the Terriers lead two minutes and 13 seconds into the 2nd quarter, making it a 5-1 ballgame. McMinis had a quick answer, controlling the draw and slicing through the Terrier defense to make it a 5-2 Beaver deficit.

After Wallingford found the net again, putting the Beavers back down by four again, McMinis had another quick answer. 13 seconds later she scored on a free-position shot to make it a three-point game once again.

Isabella Pelletier put the Terrier back up four but Ashlee Farrar (South Paris, Maine) scored a beautiful goal with 13 seconds left to play in the 1st half.

The Beavers flipped a switch at halftime and really started to assert themselves. Farrar scored a man-up goal 45 seconds into the half and Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) scored her 1st goal of the game 28 seconds later to make it a one-goal game.

Emilee Crocker (Edgecomb, Maine) held the ball behind the goal, and found a cutting Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vermont) who bounced a shot into the back of the net to tie the game up at seven with 8:37 to play in the 3rd.

The Beaver goal onslaught continued as McMinis scored once again to give the Beavers their first lead of the game. Trefsger scored her 2nd goal 33 seconds later to extend their lead to two.

A goal from McMinis and Farrar 33 seconds apart later in the 3rd quarter helped the Beavers extend their lead to 11-7 after three quarters.

Farrar, McMinis, and Trefsger scored three straight goals to open up the 4th quarter to extend the Beavers goal streak to ten straight.

Pelletier finally put an end to the Beavers run, scoring her 2nd goal of the game. Raymond-Ayer and Trefsger traded goals in the final minutes of the game to make it a 15-9 game.

McMinis scored a game-high six goals and added 10 draw controls. Farrar and McMinis each had four goals while Trefsger picked up six ground balls. Nowell made four saves in net.

Bristol Sine made 21 saves in net for Thomas.
