Chadbourne and Griffin Spark Beavers to First Win of 2025

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Seniors Simon Chadbourne (Portland, Maine) and Dylan Griffin (Saco, Maine) each delivered big performances to lead the Beavers to their first win of the New Year, defeating Springfield College 91-76 in game two of the Naismith Classic, hosted by the Pride.

The Record:

The Beavers secured their fifth win of the season, improving to 5-7, while the Pride dropped to 4-5 following Thursday evening's loss.

How It Happened:

Chadbourne came out hot, converting a four-point play on the Beavers' first possession to get things started. He hit his first four three-pointers, scoring 13 of the Beavers' first 17 points, which helped Farmington hold a 17-15 lead after the first eight minutes and 20 seconds of play.

Chadbourne's fourth three-pointer of the half sparked a 3-point barrage, as Griffin and Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) each hit one, giving the Beavers an eight-point lead midway through the first half.

After Chadbourne sank his fifth three of the half, Springfield responded with a 6-0 run. A John Paulino layup cut the Beavers' lead to just three with 7:30 to play. Griffin quickly answered with a 7-0 run of his own, including a deep three-pointer and an and-one opportunity, pushing the lead to double digits for the first time.

Chadbourne's hot shooting continued, and he finished the first half with six three-pointers to help the Beavers take a 45-37 lead into the break.

Springfield's Jarron Flynn scored the first four points of the second half, quickly narrowing the Beavers' lead to four. Chadbourne responded with a seven-point swing, drilling his seventh three-pointer of the game after a pair of Brock Flagg (Brewer, Maine) free throws, restoring Farmington's nine-point advantage.

With the Beavers holding a 64-57 lead midway through the second half, Farmington extended their lead to its largest of the game after a quick 7-0 run.

In the final five minutes, Xoren Livingston hit a layup and drilled a three-pointer in transition to cut the deficit to seven, but that would be as close as the Pride would get. The Beavers hit their free throws down the stretch and capitalized on Springfield's defensive aggressiveness, scoring easy layups and converting fouls.

Stats of the Game:

The Beavers shot exceptionally well from the floor, behind the arc, and from the free-throw line, posting shooting percentages of 54.9% (28-for-51) from the field, 47.8% (11-for-23) from three, and 82.8% (24-of-29) from the free-throw line. Their defense held the Pride to just 40.6% (26-for-64) from the field and 33.3% (6-for-18) from three. Springfield's free-throw shooting hurt them, as they only converted 60% (18-of-30) from the line. The Pride held a slim 36-34 advantage on the glass and an 11-7 edge in turnovers.
