Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Beavers Race Past Amcats, Secure First Win of the Season

PAXTON, Massachusetts – The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team was able to right the ship in a big way on Thursday evening, running past Anna Maria, 14-3, to secure their first win of the season.

The Records:

Both teams entered Thursday's game looking for their first win. The victory moved the Beavers to 1-4 on the season, while Anna Maria dropped to 0-4 with the loss.

How It Happened:

The offense came early and often as the Beavers scored six goals in the first quarter, jumping out to a big early lead. Senior midfielder Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) and junior attacker Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) combined to score five of the six goals for Farmington. Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine), who picked up an assist on Trefsger's first goal, added a goal of her own in the quarter to help Farmington take a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Beavers' offense continued to roll in the second quarter, as Dunn found an open McMinis just minutes into the period. McMinis joined Trefsger with a first-half hat trick.

McMinis scored her fourth goal of the game ten minutes later, as Farmington pushed their lead to 8-0 heading into halftime.

In the early minutes of the third quarter, McMinis found Ally Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) wide open in front of the net. Trefsger didn't miss, scoring her first goal of the game on the man-advantage. Five minutes later, McMinis added a man-up goal of her own as Farmington took a 10-0 lead.

Farmington's defense, after keeping the Amcats scoreless for over 40 minutes, finally cracked when Olivia Stump scored an unassisted goal with 4:54 left in the third quarter.

Senior Tasha Geroux (Augusta, Maine) had the answer for the Beavers, scoring her first collegiate goal just over a minute later, as Farmington regained a ten-goal lead.

Stump picked up her second goal in the closing seconds of the third quarter, hoping to give the Amcats some momentum heading into the fourth. Riley Michaud did just that, making it an 11-3 game with a goal of her own.

Farmington quickly shut down any momentum the Amcats had as McMinis found the back of the net once again, just a minute after Michaud's goal. Ally Trefsger and Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine) added goals in the final minutes to finish out the scoring and help the Beavers get into the win column.
