Husson Overpowers Farmington in NAC Battle

BANGOR, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team couldn't keep pace with Husson University's quick-strike offense on Saturday afternoon, falling 18-6 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup at Boucher Field.

The Records:

The Beavers continue their search for a second win this season, dropping to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in NAC play. Husson improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the victory.

How It Happened:

The Beavers took an early lead as senior midfielder Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) found the back of the net just a minute and a half into the game.

However, Husson responded with six consecutive goals over a ten-minute span to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Kate Boehmcke put the Eagles on the board first, converting a free-position shot.

Maddy Benoit gave Husson the lead with 6:43 left in the first quarter, scoring on a free-position shot while down a player for her fifth goal of the season. The Eagles also got goals from Averi Baker, Natalie Whitten, and Gracie Gardner during their scoring run. Benoit capped the six-goal outburst with 1:11 remaining in the quarter.

The Beavers managed to cut into the lead in the closing seconds of the first quarter when junior attacker Ruby McMinsis (Wells, Maine) fired a free-position shot into the corner, tallying her 20th goal of the season to make it 6-2 heading into the second quarter.

Husson's offense remained dominant in the second quarter, adding goals from Laela Martinez, Gardner, and Boehmcke to extend the lead to 9-2 with six and a half minutes left in the half.

Farmington capitalized on a Husson green card, scoring two man-up goals just 33 seconds apart to pull within five. McMinsis netted her second goal of the game, followed by a free-position goal from sophomore Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine).

Husson regained momentum before halftime, scoring three times in the final three minutes. Lengle, Boehmcke, and Benoit each found the back of the net, giving the Eagles a 12-4 advantage at the break.

Trefsger opened the second-half scoring with a man-up goal—her team-leading 26th of the season.

Husson responded with three unanswered goals from Boehmcke, Baker, and Gardner, extending the lead to 15-5. Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vermont) answered with her second goal of the season, making it 15-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles closed out the game with two more man-up goals from Gardner and Reese Sullivan in the final quarter to secure the 18-6 victory.
