Farmington Complete Weekend Sweep, Tops UMPI, 77-62

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington finished its weekend road trip in the win column with a 77-62 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle. With the win, Farmington maintained the top spot in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) standings.

The Records:

Farmington improved to 15-5 overall and is now 12-1 in NAC action following Saturday afternoon's win. UMPI dropped to 8-11 overall and 7-6 in NAC play after the loss.

How it Happened:

The opening 11-and-a-half minutes of play saw back-and-forth action, with neither team leading by more than four. The Beavers claimed the lead on a deep three from junior forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) and never looked back, coasting to their second win in as many days and completing the season sweep of the Owls.

Reynolds' three sparked an 11-0 run that was capped by a second triple from him, opening up a 28-19 advantage for the Beavers. The Owls responded with a quick 9-2 run that included threes from Doug McCalla and AJ Creech, cutting Farmington's lead to two in the final three minutes of the first half.

The Beavers scored the final five points of the half to take a seven-point lead into halftime. Farmington continued to stretch its lead in the early moments of the second half, rattling off a 9-2 run that included seven points from Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) to open up a 14-point advantage.

Presque Isle didn't fold, giving the Beavers a fight throughout the second half. The teams traded baskets for much of the middle portion of the half, as Farmington looked to pull away while the Owls attempted to chip into the deficit.

Yuki Ishibashi hit a three inside the final seven minutes to cut Farmington's lead to eight, but that was as close as Presque Isle would get.

Sophomore forward Kory Donlin (Warren, Maine) scored five quick points on Farmington's next two possessions, igniting a 14-2 run that was capped by a McLaughlin three to give the Beavers their largest lead of the game, 75-55 with three minutes remaining, effectively putting the contest away.
