FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington junior forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) had himself a day, carrying the Beavers to a 109-63 blowout victory over VTSU Johnson on Wednesday afternoon.
Reynolds recorded his tenth consecutive double-double and finished with a career-high 35 points, connecting on 8-of-9 from beyond the arc and grabbing 15 rebounds.
The Records:
The win for Farmington was its fourth straight and second in as many days, moving to 11-3 on the season while also remaining perfect at 8-0 in conference play. Johnson is still in search of its first victory of the season, falling to 0-13 overall and 0-7 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.
How it Happened:
The Beavers came out of the gates scorching hot from beyond the arc as a team, with Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine), Reynolds, and Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) all connecting on deep balls in the opening 1:45, hitting three of their first four attempts.
Johnson hung around early, getting good looks in the paint to stay within striking distance. A fast-break dunk from Jason Baker cut the Badgers' deficit to 19-14 with 13:06 left in the opening half.
Farmington was unable to create sustained separation until inside the final eight minutes of the first half, when Reynolds began to take over. Reynolds hit three straight threes over a brief 2:15 span to put the Beavers up by 21 as the game started to get out of hand. Reynolds shot 8-of-11 from the floor and hit 5-of-6 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Across the final 7:25 of the opening half, Farmington closed on a 25-10 run to open up a 60-33 advantage heading into halftime. McLaughlin threw down a put-back dunk to cap the momentum in the final minutes of the half, and Farmington headed into the second half with every ounce of momentum.
The second half was more of the same for Reynolds and the Beavers. Playing just the first six minutes of the half, Reynolds amassed 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, hitting a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc while also grabbing eight rebounds—including four on the offensive end—to stretch the Farmington lead to 44 in the first five and a half minutes of the second half.
Farmington was able to clear its bench early and coasted to its largest win of the season, leading by as much as 51 in the ball game.
