Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Beaver Use Offensive Explosion to Rout Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team saw its offense explode on Saturday afternoon, scoring a season-high 116 points en route to a 116-84 victory over VTSU Lyndon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Records:

The Beavers moved to 19-5 on the season while also picking up their 16th conference victory, improving to 16-1 and claiming the top seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament. Lyndon dropped to 7-15 overall and 5-10 in conference play following Saturday's setback.

How it Happened:

The opening 10 minutes of play were highly competitive, as neither team was able to create separation. Farmington scored on four of its first five possessions to take an early 9-3 lead, but that was the largest advantage either team held over the first 12 and a half minutes of action.

With the score knotted at 26-26, the Beavers rattled off an 11-0 spurt over the course of 1:42 to open up an 11-point advantage. The run was highlighted by a deep triple from junior forward Charlie Houghton (Dixfield, Maine) and capped by a layup from first-year guard Bryce Guitard (Berwick, Maine) off an assist from Houghton.

Houghton delivered his best offensive output of the season, playing aggressively from the opening tip. The junior hit a three on Farmington's first possession and never cooled off, scoring 22 points in the first half to lead the Beavers.

Farmington led by as many as 14 in the opening half, but the Hornet duo of Wesley McIntyre and Gregory Gonyea Jr. kept Lyndon within striking distance. The pair combined to score 33 of the Hornets' 47 first-half points. Farmington took a 56-47 lead into the break after Guitard hit a layup as time expired.

The teams traded buckets for the first three minutes of the second half before the Beavers went on a decisive 21-6 burst to all but put the game away with 13 and a half minutes remaining. Houghton started the run with a layup and a quick three following a Hornet turnover. He added another three before Braden Camire (Saco, Maine) connected from deep as Farmington extended its lead to 83-59, an advantage it would not relinquish.

The Beavers maintained a lead of at least 20 points from the 13:48 mark of the second half through the final horn as their offense continued to click. Farmington shot 47.3% from the floor and dominated the offensive glass, piling up 23 offensive rebounds that led to 22 second-chance points. The rebounding effort was once again led by junior forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine), who finished with a game-high 20 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end.
