Farmington Scores 11 2nd Quarter Goals to Pull Away with Win at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Connecticut - The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team used an 11-goal outburst in the second quarter to roll to an 18-6 win on the road over Mitchell College on Thursday evening.

The Records:

The Beavers improved to 2-4 on the season with the win, while Mitchell dropped to 0-2 following the loss.

How it Happened:

The first quarter was competitive, featuring back-and-forth action. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) got the scoring started just 56 seconds into the game to put the Beavers ahead.

Chloe Jennings had an answer, scoring her first of five goals just two minutes and 17 seconds later to knot the game at one.

Farmington then responded by scoring three goals in 36 seconds to open up a 4-1 lead. Ally Trefsger (South Portland, Maine), Erin Gould (Lebanon, Maine), and McMinis accounted for the three goals for Farmington.

After a Jennings goal made it a two-goal game once again, McMinis scored her third goal in the first seven minutes and five seconds of game time to make it 5-2.

Jennings matched McMinis with a hat-trick goal of her own 55 seconds later, making it 5-3, where it remained until the opening minutes of the second quarter.

Senior Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vt.) scored the first of nine straight goals to open the second quarter, helping the Beavers build a 14-3 lead they would not relinquish. Girouard and McMinis each scored two of the nine goals during the stretch, while Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine), Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine), Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine), Gould, and Zoie Ward (Albion, Maine) each found the back of the net during the run.

Jennings put an end to the Beavers' onslaught, notching her fourth goal of the opening half to make it 14-4 with just over three and a half minutes remaining until halftime.

Unassisted goals from Kylie Delile (Clinton, Maine) and Hailey Johnson (Augusta, Maine) in the final two minutes of the quarter made it 16-4 heading into halftime.

Offense slowed significantly in the second half, as both teams scored two goals apiece and the Beavers cruised to the 18-6 victory. Bree Griffin (Wilton, Maine) and Girouard tallied the goals for Farmington, while Jennings and Lauren Cordero registered second-half goals for Mitchell.

Senior goalkeeper Skye Cotnoir (West Gardiner, Maine) recorded three saves to pick up the win in goal for Farmington.
