FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington will have a total of seven teams competing in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association National Championship in Lake Placid, New York next week. The men's alpine, women's alpine, women's nordic, men's freeski, men's snowboard, women's freeski, and women's snowboard teams all qualified for the National Championships, which are slated to begin Monday, March 9.
Men's Alpine
The men's alpine team dominated the regular season, finishing with an unbeaten record. At USCSA Regionals, they had a quality showing, placing 4th in the giant slalom and 7th in the slalom, booking their trip to Nationals.
As a team during the regular season, the Beavers completely dominated the Reynolds Division, earning first place in each event. Out of the events that Farmington competed in during the Reynolds Division season, the Beavers swept the podium on three occasions.
The team is headlined by the senior duo of Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) and Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine). The duo has consistently found their way onto the podium as they combine for 13 finishes within the top three and have collected a combined five first-place finishes.
First-year Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.) had a magnificent rookie season, routinely being the third Beaver to score for the team. Riggs made his way onto the podium in three events this season, earning a gold, silver, and bronze medal.
Along with Roy, Dolan, and Riggs, the Beavers will be bringing seniors Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) and Samuel McKee (Wayne, Maine) as well as juniors Chase Raven (Hudson, Wis.) and Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.) to Lake Placid this coming week. Lindelof and Varnerin will be competing in the giant slalom National Championship while Raven and McKee will slide into the lineup during the slalom National Championship event.
Women's Alpine
Sophomore Rosie St. Cyr (Pownal, Maine) qualified for the USCSA National Championship as an individual after the Beavers spent the entirety of the 2026 season with just two skiers, needing three skiers to qualify for the event as a team.
St. Cyr was brilliant all season long and earned the top overall spot in the Reynolds Division for the season after finishing on the podium in five of the eight events. All five of St. Cyr's podium finishes were gold medal performances.
At the Eastern Regional Championships, St. Cyr delivered a pair of standout performances to book herself a trip to Lake Placid. In giant slalom, St. Cyr placed 13th overall after posting a 1:52.17 time across her two runs. The next day, St. Cyr placed 18th overall after delivering her second strong outing in as many days.
Women's Nordic
The women's nordic team punched their ticket to the USCSA National Championship through their silver medal performance at the Eastern Regional Championships.
The team is composed of five skiers, headlined by senior Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vermont), who had a great weekend at Regionals, receiving a podium finish in both races. In the 1.5K Sprint, she finished with a time of 4:07.3, placing third. In the 7.5K Classic, she finished second with a time of 28:56.6.
The four skiers racing alongside Bodach-Turner are junior Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.), who finished 19th overall in the 1.5K Sprint at Regionals, sophomore Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine), senior Hokulani Caroselli (Temple, Maine), and first-year Abbie Dumont (Gorham, Maine).
Men's Freeski
The men's freeski team booked their ticket to Nationals through a dominant performance at the Eastern Regional Championship at Magic Mountain. The Beavers had seven skiers compete, and they held the top seven spots at the end of the day. Maxwell Hamilton (Brunswick, Maine) earned gold, Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine) earned silver, and Clay Gregg (Mapleton, Maine) rounded out the podium earning bronze.
Fourth through seventh place was still controlled by UMF, with Logan Dube (Phillips, Maine), Dylan Gagnon (Hudson, N.H.), Max Labonte (Jay, Maine), and Dominique Richard (Lewiston, Maine) placing fourth through seventh, respectively.
Men's Snowboard
The men's snowboard team also competed at the Eastern Regional Championship at Magic Mountain, having similar success as the freeski team by sweeping the podium, sending them to Nationals as well. The trio that made the podium was Tucker Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine), Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine), and Jackson Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine), who earned gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.
Boardercross
UMF is sending two athletes, one man and one woman, to Nationals for boardercross. Senior Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) will look to reclaim his title as national champion. Billings has participated in two races this year, both resulting in gold medal finishes, with his last race coming in at a time of 49.77.
First-year Sophia Scola (Portland, Maine) looks to make her mark at Nationals, coming off a gold medal finish at Sugarloaf with a time of 1:06.26.
