Farmington Completes Vermont Weekend with Sweep of Johnson

JOHNSON, Vermont - The University of Maine at Farmington softball team completed its weekend trip to Vermont with a sweep of VTSU Johnson on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. The Beavers cruised to a 9-4 victory in game one and held on to win game two, 4-2.

Game One; Farmington 9 - Johnson 4

The first two innings were scoreless, but the Beavers' offense broke the game open in the top of the third. Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) got things going with a one-out single, and Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine) followed with a walk to put runners on first and second. After a passed ball moved them to second and third, Skyler Augustine (Brunswick, Maine) grounded out, but Mayo came in to score on the play to make it 1-0.

Junior outfielder Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) followed with an RBI single to plate Collins. After Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) singled and Lisa Truchin (Torrance, Calif.) drew a walk to load the bases, sophomore infielder Angelina Ventullo (Salem, N.H.) cleared the bases with a double to make it a 5-0 game.

The Badgers battled back in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on four hits to make it a one-run game. Kristie Zator plated a pair with a two-out double that got the Badgers on the scoreboard for the first time. Taylor Reddick followed with an RBI single, and then Hannah Corvino ripped a double to plate Reddick, making it a 5-4 game.

Farmington got all four of those runs back in the top of the fourth. Reilly Russell (Windham, Maine) led off the inning with a walk, moved to second on an error, and then scored on another error. Augustine picked up her second RBI of the game, singling home Mayo to make it 7-4. Truchin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Ventullo later plated a run on a groundout to make it a 9-4 game.

Following the Badgers' four-run third inning, Truchin settled in, allowing just two hits over the remainder of the game—a single in the sixth and another in the seventh—to close out the victory for the Beavers.

Madyson Stingle led off the fourth with a double and later scored on a single from Reddick that cut Farmington's lead in half.

Truchin and Bella Miller (Lewiston, Maine) followed with singles of their own to load the bases in front of Kytana Williamson (Nobleboro, Maine). Williamson came through with a single to plate Pike and make it a 3-1 game.

Farmington added an insurance run later in the inning, as Pike singled home Ava Paglianite (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) to extend the lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Reddick reached base via an error as Johnson looked to fight back. Corvino followed with a single, bringing the tying run to the plate.
