BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington softball team opened the 2026 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament with an 8-3 victory over fifth-seeded SUNY Delhi on Thursday morning at O'Keefe Field on the campus of Husson University. With the victory, the Beavers advance to take on top-seeded Husson University, which received a first-round bye, in the second round of the NAC Tournament.
How it Happened
The Broncos scored the game's first run in the top of the first, taking advantage of a two-out error to make it a 1-0 game. Adrienne Neff led off the game with an infield single to short and then moved to second on a SAC bunt. She came around to score on a dropped fly ball off the bat of Riley Martin.
The Beavers didn't wait long to respond, plating four runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 4-1 lead. Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) and Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine) opened the inning with back-to-back singles and then moved to second and third on a SAC bunt. After Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) walked to load the bases, senior third baseman Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) ripped a single to center, scoring Mayo and Collins to make it 2-1 Farmington. Lisa Truchin (Torrance, Calif.) followed with an RBI single of her own, and Bella Miller (Lewiston, Maine) was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases. An infield single from Angelina Ventullo (Salem, N.H.) plated Pike for the Beavers' fourth run of the inning.
Delhi got a run back in the top of the second as Angelina Dickel ripped a two-out RBI double, plating Grace Sperry, who had walked earlier in the inning, to make it a 4-2 game.
The game stayed 4-2 until the bottom of the fourth when the Beavers broke it open with their second four-run inning. After Mayo reached second base on an error, Collins singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Collins quickly stole second, putting two runners in scoring position for Ava Pagliarini (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.), who lined out to third for the second out of the inning. Dow followed by smacking a single to right field, scoring both Mayo and Collins to make it a 6-2 ballgame. After a walk to Pike, Mikayla Wright took over in the circle for Bronco starter Alethea Ferrara.
Wright was met immediately by Truchin, who singled up the middle to score Dow and extend Farmington's lead to five. Miller was then hit by a pitch once again to load the bases for Ventullo. Ventullo drew a four-pitch walk to plate Pike and make it 8-2 Farmington after four innings.
Farmington continued to cling to the 8-2 lead entering the seventh inning. After two quick foul outs recorded the first two outs of the inning, back-to-back singles from Neff and Cayla Moroni put runners at second and third after Moroni advanced on the throw. A third straight single, this time from Stephanie Huckabee, plated Neff to make it 8-3. Truchin, looking to finish off the complete game, got Martin to ground out to end the contest.
