Farmington Softball Sees Season End with Loss to SUNY Cobleskill

BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington softball team saw its 2026 season come to a close on Friday morning following an 8-3 setback at the hands of third-seeded SUNY Cobleskill at O'Keefe Field on the campus of Husson University.

How it Happened:

The Beavers got their offense rolling quickly in the top half of the first when Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine) led off the game with a walk and then quickly moved to third base on a double from Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine). After a strikeout, Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) lofted a fly ball to deep left that allowed Mayo to tag up and score the game's first run. Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) followed with a single to right-center to score Collins and stake the Beavers to an early 2-0 advantage.

Farmington threatened to extend the lead with two outs in the first inning after Lisa Truchin (Torrance, Calif.) singled and Bella Miller (Lewiston, Maine) walked to load the bases. However, Fighting Tigers starting pitcher Gabriella Wendelken escaped the jam with a strikeout to keep it a 2-0 game.

Farmington loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the third as Pike reached on an error, Truchin was hit by a pitch, and Miller singled to left. Angelina Ventullo (Salem, N.H.) delivered a SAC fly to push across Farmington's third run of the game. Wendelken once again limited the damage, recording a strikeout and a popout to end the inning with just one run scoring.

Cobleskill was hitless through the first two innings, but its bats started to come to life in the bottom of the third inning. Baylee Yandow hit a one-out single up the middle to record the Fighting Tigers' first hit of the game. The next batter was Sammy Fausti, who reached via an error, moving Yandow to third and advancing to second with still just one out. Kylie Rattigan followed with a groundout to shortstop to plate Cobleskill's first run and make it 3-1.

Cobleskill's offense broke out in a big way in the bottom of the fourth. Aliyah Neeser ripped a one-out double down the left-field line to get the rally started. After a popout for the second out of the inning and a walk put runners on first and second, Mackenzie Carver singled to right to make it a 3-2 game. Yandow hit her second single of the game, this time plating Sam Lawton to tie the game at three. After a walk to Fausti, Rattigan crushed a grand slam over the wall in left field to put the Fighting Tigers ahead for the first time, 7-3.

Lawton added to the Cobleskill lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single of her own that made it an 8-3 ballgame.

Farmington put runners on base in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings but was unable to come up with the timely hit needed to cut into the deficit as Wendelken finished the complete game to send Cobleskill into the next round and bring an end to Farmington's 2026 campaign.
