Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Thomas College men's soccer team claimed the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season championship with a 2-0 victory over University of Maine at Farmington Tuesday night.
UMaine-Farmington closed out its regular season with a 2-15-0 overall record, 1-8-0 in the NAC. Thomas improved to 12-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 in conference play.
Thomas' Marcus Johnson kicked off the scoring for Thomas at the 19th minute with a strike just outside the box finding the right corner of the net. To end the half the Terriers would hold a 9-2 advantage in shots with two saves a piece for both keepers in a half that saw a lot of back and forth play.
UMF would put pressure on the hosts at the beginning of the second half, but would not be able to gain any momentum. Thomas would cushion their slim lead with a goal at the 73:30 mark by freshman Joshua Phelps, who netted his fourth goal of his rookie campaign.
Thomas would finish the game with 19 shots to the Beavers four, while also holding a six to one advantage in corner kicks.
Thomas keeper Mikkail Crockwell and UMF's Paul Dupre (Rehoboth, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) each had three saves in the match.
Thomas will host #8 Green Mountain on Saturday at 1pm in the quarterfinals on the NAC Championships. Earlier this fall the Terriers shut out the Eagles on the road 2-0, and have won the last five matches against Green Mountain.
