Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's soccer team finally scored some goals as the Mules opened up a 5-0 halftime lead on the way to a 7-0 victory over University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference play Sunday.

Colby (1-2-2) had not scored a goal over its opening four games of the season.

The Mules' Matt Giron ended the scoreless drought at 14:32 of the opening half. Andrew Meisel's penalty kick was saved by UMF goalkeeper Chris Roberts (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy), but Giron raced in and knocked in the rebound.

Colby's Charlie Dupee, who scored two goals on the day, made it 2-0 at 26:40 when his shot deflected off a UMF defender and into the net. Meisel padded the lead to 3-0 when he ripped a shot from the top of the box just 50 seconds later.

Colby went up 5-0 at the break when Dupee had some dribbling space into the box and tallied at 35:35. Eric Nesto scored his first collegiate goal at 39:48 when he dribbled into the box and nailed a shot for the score.

Colby tallied 10 minutes into the second half when John Bengtson scored his first collegiate goal in front off a corner kick by Chris Roccotagliata. Matt Ayers also notched his first collegiate goal from the center of the box off a pass from Roccotagliata at 56:30.

UMF (1-7-0) received four saves from Roberts, while the Mules used Cody Funkhouser for the first half, Josh Richards for 37 minutes in the second half, and Peter Quayle for the final eight minutes.

Colby heads to University of Southern Maine for 4 p.m. game Wednesday, while the Beavers play host to Colby-Sawyer College this Saturday at 12:15 p.m.
