Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Colby-Sawyer freshman Lukas Welch banged home the winning goal in the third minute of the second overtime period, lifting the Chargers to a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer win over the University of Maine at Farmington, Saturday afternoon at Prescott Field.
Welch capitalized on a failed attempt just seconds earlier by sophomore Max Yee. Yee's attempt from a bad angle deep in the right corner sailed through the 6-yard box and wide left of the UMF goal, but Welch followed up on the play and one-timed the ball into the open side of the net.
Welch's shot for the game-winner was the Chargers' first over nearly 13 minutes of overtime play.
UMaine-Farmington (1-8-0, 0-3-0 North Atlantic Conference) outshot Colby-Sawyer (3-5-1, 2-0-0 North Atlantic Conference) by a 15-14 margin, and the Beavers had a narrow 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
UMF keeper Paul Dupre (Rehoboth, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) recorded seven saves for the Beavers, while Nick Austin charted six saves for Colby-Sawyer.
The Beavers will host New England College in another North Atlantic Conference matchup on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 12:00 p.m. on Prescott Field.
