UMaine-Machias upends UMaine-Farmington, 3-0

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Machias men's soccer team picked up three second half goals to break a first half deadlock and cruise to a 3-0 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, Sunday afternoon at Prescott Field.

UMaine-Farmington dropped to 2-9-1 overall with the loss, while UMaine-Machias boosted its record to 14-2-0.

Farmington narrowly outshot Machias, 6-5, through the first 45 minutes of play, but neither squad was able to find the back of the goal.

The Clippers finally ended the scoring drought in the 63rd minute, when Alfredo Palacios carried a through ball into the 18-yard box, dribbled around diving UMF keeper Derek Reilly, and tapped home a shot from the corner of the six-yard box for the goal.

Stefan Zalucky extended UMaine-Machias' lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute, after one-timing a ball past Reilly from squarely in front of the Farmington goal inside the six-yard box. Frank Zeba, who played the cross over to Zalucky, earned the assist.

Jairo Ulises-Castillo capped the Clippers' scoring in the 84th minute, scoring on a penalty kick awarded for a UMF foul inside the 18.

UMaine-Machias finished with 20 shots to UMaine-Farmington's seven, and the Clippers had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Reilly charted seven saves for the Beavers – including a point-blank denial on Juan Manual Solares' attempt from inside the 18 in the 81st minute – while his counterpart from Machias, Luis Herrera, finished with six saves.

UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when it hosts North Atlantic Conference rival Maine Maritime Academy at 3:30 p.m. at Prescott Field.
