Achekh gets game winner in road win over Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Ibrahim Achekh found the back of the net just in time to lift the Beavers to a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer win over Johnson State College, Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

Achekh netted his goal in the 88th minute, converted a through ball pushed forward by Ryan Fairbanks. The goal was Achekh's fourth of the season.

UMaine-Farmington improved to 3-10-1 overall, 1-4-1 in the NAC, with the win, which keeps the Beavers in the thick of the chase for a NAC Tournament quarterfinal berth. Johnson State fell to 0-14-0 overall, 0-8-0 in conference play.

Johnson State outshot Farmington, 15-14, and each squad had a pair of corner kick opportunities.  Ronie Morales got the start in goal for the Beavers and recorded four saves in 45 minutes of play; he was lifted at the half for Derek Reilly, who made one stop over his 45 minutes in goal. Ryan Belen played the entire game for the Badgers, charting five saves.

UMaine-Farmington closes out the season with three straight home games, starting with a matchup with Thomas College on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Prescott Field.
