Men's soccer falls to NEC in conference matchup

HENNIKER, N.H. -- New England College men's soccer extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday with a 5-0 win over visiting University of Maine at Farmington at Don Melander Field. 

With the win the Pilgrims improved to 7-3-1 overall and remained undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) by improving to 4-0-0 in conference.  The loss drops the Beavers to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in conference play.   

New England College opened the scoring in the 17th minute of play as Sebastian Manteau netted his first goal of the season putting in a pass off a free kick from Manny Arteaga. 

The Pilgrims extended their lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later as senior forward Rob Lucas would sneak a free kick in the upper right corner of the net recording his fourth goal of the season. 

New England College struck again just 10 minutes into the second half as senior midfielder Zak Harris notched his third goal of the season heading in a free kick off the foot of Lucas. 

The Pilgrims tacked on another score just four minutes later as Sebastian Andersson scored his team-high fifth goal of the season looping in a pass from first-year defender Alfred Agnew. 

Farmington's best scoring opportunity came in the 67th minute of play as Ryan Fairbanks fires a shot but NEC keeper Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) made the diving save keeping the Beavers off the board.  

NEC closed out the game with one more score as Brandon Guidotti (Lebanon, N.H.) rebounded in a shot by Ronsard Masamba (Haverhill, Mass.) that ricocheted off the crossbar. 

Millard picked up the shutout win in goal finishing with seven saves. In goal for Farmington was Ronie Morales (Hewlett, N.Y.) who recorded saves seven on the afternoon. 

Farmington returns to the field on Sunday, Oct. 6, as it travels to take on conference foe Colby-Sawyer College.
