Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of New England chalked up a goal in each half of play and held on for a 2-0 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, in a non-conference men's soccer matchup Wednesday evening at Prescott Field.
The Nor'Easters' Kyle McGlone notched the game winner in the 32nd minute. McGlone found a loose ball off a UNE direct kick from 18 yards out that rebounded hard off UMaine-Farmington's defensive wall, and slipped the ball to the right of UMF keeper Derek Reilly. Finn Ducker was credited with an assist on McGlone's goal.
Tyler Garnick doubled UNE's lead in the 63rd minute, taking a through ball from Anthony Frangione and finishing from about 10 yards out with a shot to Reilly's right.
UMaine-Farmington's best chance to cut the margin was in the 85th minute, when Uriah Forrest-Bully's header toward the upper part of the Nor'Easters goal was tracked by UNE keeper Aidan McParland for a save.
UNE outshot UMaine-Farmington, 12-7, and the Nor'Easters had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. In a game without a lot of good scoring attempts, both Reilly and McParland finished with just one save.
UMaine-Farmington is idle until Tuesday, Sept. 17, when it hosts Lyndon State in a North Atlantic Conference matchup. UNE opens conference play in its next outing on Saturday, Sept. 14, against Nichols College.
