Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – The UMaine-Farmington men's soccer team (1-7-1) gave up three second half goals as the Beavers fell 3-1 to Southern Maine Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field.

The Huskies did not waste any time increasing their lead as Caleb Leino scored his first goal of the season. Jonathan Varney sent a cross past the Beaver defense and Leino booted a liner past UMF keeper Ronie Morales.

Tyler Rand scored the final goal of the game for USM on a penalty kick. After a foul in the box, Rand had the advantage on Morales and took advantage of the moment gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead.

Jordan Luks put UMF on the board in the 87th minute with a penalty kick of his own. Yusuf Yama was taken down by a Huskie defender in the box and coach Tommy DiNuzzo elected Luks to take the shot. Luks beat USM keeper Elijah Leverett to ruin the shutout, but it was too little too late for the Beavers.

Ronie Morales recorded nine saves on the afternoon and his counterpart Elijah Leverett was close behind with six saves.
