Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The UMaine-Farmington men's soccer team (1-11-1) fell, 3-1, to North Atlantic Conference opponent Lyndon Wednesday afternoon after surrendering three first half goals.
Lyndon took the lead at 37:35 as the Hornets executed on a two-on-one, give-and-go play. Devin Cowand kicked a pass through the Beaver defense to Bradley Shumway; Shumway unselfishly dished a pass back to Cowand who sent the easy on-timer past UMF goalie Matt Wilson.
After recording his first career assist, Shumway scored his first career goal in the 29th minute. Eric Nelson passed to Shumway on the left side inside the box. Dan Bernier defended Shumway well, but Shumway left himself an angle to get a shot off. Matt Wilson deflected the shot but the ball had eyes of its own and found the back corner of the goal.
The Hornets added another goal less than a minute later when Dylan Cherko's header got past a group of Beaver defenders. Hunter Torrey sent a cross into the box and Cowan tried for a header but his header was deflected by Cherko, giving Lyndon the, 3-0 advantage.
Yusuf Yama tried to get UMF on the board when he dribbled through a hive of Hornets defenders on the left side, kicked right, but his grounder missed the post and rolled wide.
The Beavers ruined the shutout when Ean Rouillard capitalized on Lyndon turnover with 5:04 left in the first half. Ryan Fairbanks stole the Lyndon possession and passed to his right, and then Rouillard sent a strike into the top left corner of the goal.
UMF keeper Matt Wilson saved five shots on the afternoon.
UMaine-Farmington looks to rebound on Saturday as the Beavers host Husson at Prescott Field. Game time is set for 2:30pm.
