Early Lead Slips Away from UMF, Topped 2-1 by NEC

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – New England College scored two unanswered goals and topped the UMaine-Farmington men's soccer team (1-14-1), 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Prescott Field.

Austin Dooley netted his second goal of the season in the 23rd minute to give the Beavers the early lead. Yusuf Yama fired a shot that deflected off a Pilgrims defender and landed at the foot of Dooley. One touch later, Dooley booted shot into the bottom left of the goal.

The Pilgrims tied the game on a penalty kick with less than two minutes left in the first half. After a UMF defender knocked a NEC player down in the box, Pilgrims coach Dave DeCrew elected his best offensive threat to take the kick, Sebastian Andersson.

Andersson lined up for the kick against UMF keeper Matt Wilson. As Andersson began his approach, Wilson guessed left and Andersson sent a laser into the top right corner for the equalizer.

The Pilgrims took the lead for good at the 74:19 mark. Ronsard Masamba attacked the goal for a breakaway, forcing Wilson to come out of the goal and as soon as Wilson committed, Masamba lined a shot from the corner of the box into the left side of the goal.

Matt Wilson recorded his first career game with double-digit saves as the freshman blocked 10 shots for the Beavers.

UMaine-Farmington host Colby-Sawyer on Sunday at 2:30pm in the regular season finale and Senior Day.
