Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – The UMaine-Farmington (1-5-1) men's soccer earned its first win of the 2014 season in the first conference matchup on the schedule with a 4-3 victory over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers offense would explode with four, second half goals Saturday, with each goal coming off the foot of four different players.
Green Mountain scored the first goal of the game in the 34th minute when Nazar Zhukovskyy found the back of the net for his third goal of the season off the assist from Mike Ellis.
The Beavers did not waste any time tying the game in the second half when Jordan Luks' penalty kick goal evened the score 49 seconds into the half. Darine Gnidehoue gave UMF the lead and netted his first goal of the season after an assist from Ryan Fairbanks.
The Eagles would battle back when Jordan Manikas tied the game, 2-2, in the 57th minute for his sixth goal of the season as Mike Ellis gave Manikas the dish, and Mankias' kick could not be stopped by UMF goalie Ronie Morales.
Austin Dooley put the Beavers back on top late in the game with his first goal of the season after Yusuf Yama assisted the goal.
Fairbanks added an insurance goal for UMF with less than 10 minutes left for the unassisted goal to increase the Beavers' lead, 4-2.
Green Mountain tried to claw their way back with a goal from Nate Laymon with 4:07 left, but the goal was not enough as the Beavers start off conference play, 1-0.
Ronie Morales saved five shots on the day. Eagle goalie Griffin Shelor saved 10 shots in the game.
UMaine-Farmington will stay in the Green Mountain state and travel eight miles to Castleton for the Beavers second conference game of the season Sunday at 12:00pm.
