Achekh Charts UMF's First Hat Trick Since 2010

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – Ibrahim Achekh (Aboudeia, Chad/Lewiston) recorded a hat trick in the second half to guide the University of Maine at Farmington (4-6-2, 2-3-1) men's soccer team to an, 8-1, North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain College (0-12-0, 0-5-0) on Sunday afternoon.

The opening half only saw one goal scored and it came from a Luke Sterling (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) throw-in. Sterling stood next to the Eagles' bench and the freshman launched a flip-throw on goal and as Green Mountain keeper Samuel Nichols tried to save it, the ball deflected off his hands into the back of the net.

Sterling also assisted UMF's second goal early in the second half. Sterling dished a cross in the box to Yusuf Yama (Goma, Congo/Portland), who lined a grounder into the right side of the net.

Achekh recorded his hat trick in a five-minute span to blow the game open. Sterling added another assist by passing through the Eagles' defense for the breakaway and Achekh chipped his shot over Nichols. Yama assisted Achekh's next two goals, including an attempt to score his second goal of the contest but after a deflected save, Achekh booted in the rebound to give UMF a 5-0 advantage. Achekh's hat trick was the first by a UMF player since Jordan Hale accomplished the feat in a 7-0 win over Unity College on September 28, 2010.

UMF also had a pair of first-career goals later in the second half. Luke Dwornik (Newark, Del./ Cab Calloway School of the Arts) tallied his first goal as a Beaver after the assist from Ryan Fairbanks (Lisbon Falls, Maine/Lisbon). Dwornik found an opening in the Eagles' defense and Fairbanks lined a pass to the freshman and Dwornik scored the breakaway goal. Dwornik set up fellow freshman Tyler Caswell (Weare, N.H./John Stark) for the seventh goal of the game for UMF in the 80th minute. Dwornik launched a cross from the corner of the box to Caswell, who trapped the pass and sent a laser into the back of the net.

Victor Gollub ruined the shutout for the Beavers and got Green Mountain on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute. After UMF saved a pair of shots, Gollub took a shot on goal that deflected off a UMF defender and into the top right corner of the net.

Henry Ametti (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) gave UMF its final margin of victory in the 85th minute off a free kick. Ametti stood just beyond the Beavers' bench and his bending shot hooked into the left side of the net for his second goal of the season.

Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) earned the win with four saves for the Beavers and Chris Roberts (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) saved one shot in a second half relief appearance.

UMaine-Farmington will host Thomas College on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
