Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Ryan Fairbanks (Lisbon Falls, Maine/Lisbon) knocked in the eventual game-winning goal with a header as the University of Maine at Farmington (2-1) held on for a 2-1 victory over Emerson College (2-2) on Sunday.
The Beavers took advantage of a corner kick when Tristan Price (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) launched a strike into the air and Fairbanks jumped up and knocked the shot off the left post and took a friendly bounce into the back of the net.
At halftime, neither team put a tally on the scoreboard but UMF only needed thirty seconds into the final period to make it happen. Luke Sterling (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) put a finesse touch on a shot, which was knocked down by Emerson keeper Carter Bowers, but Uriah Forest-Bulley (Turner Falls, Mass./Turner Falls) was there for the rebound to power it home.
Emerson scored equalizer in the 71st minute with a breakaway goal by Duncan Bochicchino.
UMF kept their poise and answered back with Fairbanks' go-ahead score six minutes later.
Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn./Hampden) and the UMF defense held the Lions to only four shots on goal in the physical matchup, with Wilson grabbing three saves.
