Box Score STANDISH, Maine – A pair of missed penalty kicks turned out to be the difference maker for the University of Maine at Farmington (3-3-0, 1-0-0) men's soccer team in Tuesday's 3-1 non-conference loss at Saint Joseph's College (5-3-1, 1-0-0).
Saint Joseph's College scored the first goal of the contest when Johnny Thomas found the back of the net just shy of the 5th minute. With a scramble in front of the net, Thomas was able to find a hole in the defense for the score.
The Beavers kept clawing away and evened the game at 14:00 in the first half. UMF marched down the field and Ibrahim Achekh (Aboudeia, Chad/Lewiston) booted home the tying score with the assist from Austin Dooley (Buckfield, Maine/Buckfield).
After the Monks grabbed a pair of goals in the second half, the Beavers were presented with two penalty kicks to tie the game. Henry Ametti (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) lined up with fifteen minutes remaining in the game, but his kick was saved by Saint Joe's keeper Scott Brenner. Approaching the five minute mark, Uriah Forest-Bulley (Turner Falls, Mass./Turner Falls) set up to draw UMF closer, but his attempt resulted with the same outcome, a save by Brenner.
Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) saved three shots between the pipes for UMF.
