Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer (1-0-0) overcame an early deficit to pick up a 3-1 win on Sunday over visiting University of Maine at Presque Isle (0-2) at Leib Field in non-conference action.
The Owls scored first, only 1:46 into the game, when Cody Blair dribbled through a pair of UMF defenders and lined a shot into the back of the net to give UMPI a quick 1-0 lead.
The Beavers would respond five minutes later as sophomore forward Luke Dwornik (Newark, Del/ Cab Calloway School of Arts) would score on a breakaway goal to tie the game at one apiece.
UMF would take the lead for good when freshman Andrew Longhurst (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) sent a crossing pass in the box to Tristan Price (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy), where Price turned and fired a shot into the right side of the net at 30:39 to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead at the half.
The Beavers added an insurance goal in the second half as freshman Jake Heimlich (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) recorded his first career goal. Hunter Michaud (Somerworth, N.H./Somersworth) tapped a pass back to Heimlich, who booted in the final goal of the afternoon and gave UMF its final margin of victory.
Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) made four saves in goal to pick up the win.
UMF was on the scoring attack all afternoon as the Beavers outshot the Owls, 32-6, and won the corner kick battle, 9-1.
UMaine-Farmington returns to non-conference action on Wednesday at Bates.
