Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer (1-1) fell 3-0 in non-conference action at Bates College (1-0) on Wednesday night.
Bates scored the first goal of the contest in the eighth minute when Eric Opoku tallied his first goal of the season. Opoku doubled the Bobcats' lead with his second goal of the evening in the 50th minute. Nate Merchant added the final score of the game in the 69th minute for the final margin of victory for Bates.
The Beavers had a pair of chances to cut into the lead on corner kicks, but could not produce a goal to trim the deficit.
Junior net minder Matt Wilson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) saved three shots for the Beavers.
UMaine-Farmington travels to Pine Manor on Saturday to continue non-conference play.
