Box Score BANGOR, Maine – A second-half goal by Cade McHugh carried the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team past Husson University, 1-0, in the North Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament East Semifinal on Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The tournament semifinal victory and NAC East Division title sends UMaine-Farmington men's soccer into the NAC tournament championship game for the first time in program history. The Beavers will face NAC West Division champion SUNY Polytechnic on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1:00 p.m. in Utica, New York, for the 2021 NAC crown and accompanying automatic qualifier into the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
As an added bonus: the Beavers' win on Saturday afternoon on was their first over Husson men's soccer since the 2015 season.
UMaine-Farmington outshot Husson, 6-3, over the first 45 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
The Beavers broke through in the 69th minute when McHugh finished on a cross by Christian Beliveau to put UMaine-Farmington into the lead.
Husson outshot UMaine-Farmington, 7-1, over the remainder of the second half, but was unable to put one past Beavers' keeper Jonah Sautter. Sautter finished the game with three saves on 11 total Husson shots.
UMaine-Farmington finished with 10 total shots, with Husson keeper Alex Rechsteiner charting two saves over 90 minutes. The Eagles held a 10-5 advantage over the Beavers in corner kicks.
